Transferring to SFS
Foster carers already approved by a local authority or fostering agency have the right to transfer from one organisation to another. Most carers transferring to SFS wish to take advantage of the exceptional levels of support and our charity ethos of putting the needs of children above the financial goals of commercial companies.
There is an established transfer process produced by the Fostering Network called the Transfer of Carers Protocol.
Summary of Protocol
If there are no children in placement:
- The carer(s) give written notice to their existing local authority or agency.
- SFS ask the existing organisation for a reference.
- SFS undertake a fast-track assessment
If there are children in placement:
It’s essentially the same but the carer also needs to let the local authority who placed the children know they are intending to move to SFS. SFS will arrange a meeting with that local authority to ensure the child’s interests are paramount during the after the transfer.
